It must be genetic...

Colin has learned to wave, and loves to practice it on everyone.  (Well, everyone except his mom.  But that's another story and he's finally starting to wave to mom, so I won't belabor the point.)  He prefers to wave with his right hand, although on occasion he'll wave with his left hand.  Or sometimes with both hands.  And unlike a lot of little kids he waves with his palm out (not palm in, waving to himself).  He's the Energizer Bunny of waving... because once he gets started he doesn't stop.

Not only does he like to wave to everyone (whether or not he knows them, regardless of whether they are paying attention or even notice him), he also likes to wave for an extended period of time.  He'll wave once or twice, then again, and on and on and on.  And once you think he's done, he will probably wave for a little while longer.  Just for good measure.

My husband noticed this, and now every time Colin begins his waving bye-bye to Daddy routine (which starts in our bedroom and continues down the stairs, through the front hall, out the front door, and down the driveway) he says that Colin is "a long-waver, from a long line of long-wavers."

And he's right.  When I think about it... every time we visit my in-laws, they say goodbye. And wave.  Then continue waving (while peeping out the window) as we back down the driveway.  And they're still waving as we pull away.  For all I know they're still waving when we're getting on the freeway... I just can't see it to verify!  So I guess the little guy comes by it honestly.

Who knew long-waving was a genetic trait???
