Cranky, Crabby, Chompy

Colin has been unusually cranky this week, and not just with school and the transition to Toddlers.  The other night at dinner he literally just kept whining and making this really, REALLY annoying noise.  Kinda like Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber.  ("Wanna hear the most annoying noise in the world?")  I ignored it, thinking it was just some sort of phase, or a stupid trick he picked up from a classmate, and hoping that he would stop if I didn't give him any attention.

But it wasn't just at dinner that night.  He's been waking up in the middle of the night, and in the early hours of the morning, and just cries.  And cries.  Not big tears like he got hurt, just crying like he is bitterly complaining about something.  He was intermittently his normal sunny self, but the visit from this changeling child has been less than pleasant.

I now know why.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw a new tooth just starting to poke through his gums (#13) and a swelling that looked like a potential #14.  Well... last night Colin was laughing and I saw another tooth that snuck in under my radar and is about 1/3 of the way in already.  So he's got three canine teeth coming in all at once.  Plus I saw a swelling where the fourth canine is starting to work its way through.  No wonder the kid is off his game - YIKES!

The good news is that it looks like he will have 16 of his 20 baby teeth, pretty much right on schedule according to the WebMD chart.  With any luck he'll have all of his baby teeth in before he's 2 years old, and we'll be done with this nonsense for a few years!
