And so it begins...

A week ago, while I was taking a class at the gym, H took Colin down to see our friend the tennis pro after his last clinic ended.  Then the real fun began: the pro handed Colin a diminutive racquet and he hit his first ball.  From what I hear the thrill was instantaneous!

Colin, being a Sharma, has to do things a little different.  Instead of being a normal little kid and trying to swing the racquet in a forehand (or even backhand) motion, or dragging it along the court, he cocked his arm behind his head and was only interested in doing overhead smashes!  He held the racquet behind him, with his arm up and his elbow pointing toward the ceiling, then chased after the ball to pulverize it!  (H was brave, and held the ball for Colin by a tiny piece of fuzz, until the last possible moment so the little guy could hit his incredible overhead.  Good thing he has quick hands or I think he could easily have ended up with a broken wrist!)

Colin seemed to love chasing after the balls as much as hitting them, and was happily exhausted by the time I got done with my class, and I think it is safe to say that we all went home happy and tired that night.

So... this past weekend, at the ripe old age of 18 months, we went out and bought Colin his first tennis racquet.  It is Colin-sized, and has SpongeBob on it along with the catchphrase "The court is your oyster."  He was so incredibly excited he was running around the store flailing it at everything he saw.

Last night as I was working out H took Colin down on one of the courts and he got the thrill of using his own tennis racquet for the first time.  They only stayed on the court for a few minutes, then returned to the main seating area where Colin continued to bat the ball around and chase it with his racquet until I was done with my class.

And so it begins...
