Hooray!

With each of the boys, when they were ready to start going down the stairs (or more accurately, when we could no longer hold them back) we taught them to "boop."

DEFINITION
Boop (verb): to go down the stairs, one at a time, sitting on your rump and scooting so your backside plops from one step to the next.  The action is typically accompanied by a parent and/or the "booper" making an ecstatic BOOP! sound with each step.

Silly?  Yes.  Of course!  But it worked with Colin, and although it took him a while Ryan got in on it as well.  Ryan, for the longest time, would only go up the stairs.  It was probably 6 months after he first went up the stairs that he even considered going down.

Thankfully Ryan hasn't learned Colin's speed-stair trick, which involved Colin laying on his stomach and flying down the stairs feet-first at  breakneck speed.  That move always terrified me, although in retrospect it was probably the safest (and clearly the fastest) way for him to get downstairs on his own!  That, however, was Colin-esque.

Ryan has his own style on the stairs.  Again, of course.

He will climb up to the landing, turn around, and then make sure that someone is watching him.  Once he has your full attention, he'll scoot up to the first step, then boop.  He'll say "boop!" but you have to say it too.  This process will repeat, 7 times, until he reaches the bottom step.  When he's finally downstairs Ryan will stand up, smile broadly, then begin clapping and say "Yeaaaaaaah!" to celebrate what a great job he did.

I am utterly incapable of resisting... so every time, without fail, I join in with him.  Clapping and cheering for him.  Hooray Ryan!

You have to give the kid credit - he certainly has his own style!
