9-Month Checkup

Colin had his 9-month checkup today, and all is well.  My biggest concern was the heart murmur that the doctor heard the last time.  He said it was probably intermittent (apparently it happens sometimes as kids grow), but I was still concerned.  Thankfully his heart was fine, no murmur, so we are in the clear.

As for growth... he's still a teeny-weenie.  He's up to 18.5 pounds and 27.5 inches, but he's still on the small side for his age.  (Between 10-25 percentile for weight, 25th percentile for length.)  When I told H his first comment was "That's it!  I'm taking over.  The fat parent is in charge now."  HA!  Good luck kiddo.  It isn't like I deny the kid food - he gets as much as he wants.  The problem is that he's just so darned active.  Colin is either sleeping, or crawling around exploring at about 100mph.  There's no in between, no lazing around just letting the fat gel on his thighs.  Our little guy was actually up to 19 pounds at one point (on our home scale), but then dropped back down after he started crawling.  All hail the weight-loss powers of exercise!

And the doctor was pretty impressed with the variety of foods that Colin has eaten.  I started laughing when he suggested that we could begin moving Colin past purees and try other food textures.  The kid is eating pasta with meat sauce and sauteed veggies... he moved past purees 2 months ago!  So on that front we're ahead of the curve.

But, in general we have a happy healthy little guy who seems to be coming along nicely.  I could have told you that without the doctor, but it doesn't hurt to have a medical seal of approval as well.

And thankfully Colonel Congestion is taking a break.  Colin's nose was running like Greta Weitz earlier, but thanks to the humidifier and another dose of decongestant he's resting peacefully now.  I think I'll do the same.
