Bombero!

This week at Colin's school the theme is Firefighters.  The teachers have read them books about firefighters, they learned the Spanish word for firefighter (bombero), looked at the image of a firefighter's hat on their learning rug, played with the red fire truck toy, red has been the theme color for their art projects... they're really pretty thorough!

On Wednesdy the local firehouse gave Halloween packets to each child.  The packet included some coloring sheets and a crayon (red), word puzzles (dalmation, fire truck...), a sheet to do with your parents to develop a fire plan for your home, and... a plastic firefighter's hat.  I happened to be there when the packets came in, and was playing with Colin holding him up in the air.  He was a helpless victim waiting to happen, so they put Colin's hat on his head.

Keep in mind, this is a 5 month old infant.  Wearing a hat that was clearly too big on his teeny little head.  I expected him to bat the hat off instantly.  Perhaps accompanied by an unhappy noise or a grimace of distaste.  But no.  Not Colin.  He was thrilled... you could almost hear his thoughts... "Look at me!  How cool am I?  I'm wearing a fancy red hat!!"  His teacher was so tickled by his reaction that she ran and grabbed her camera.

The photo came out a bit grainy, but the expression is priceless.  Is this kid a ham or what?!?!
