Extra Crispy Nuggets

 What's life like with boys?

Someone is always hungry.

Someone is usually throwing or bouncing something. Probably against a wall in the house.

We are constantly running from one activity to another.

There's some degree of unfinished homework.

Mountains of dirty laundry.

Giant stinky feet.

And occasionally, you get bonus excitement.

I work from home, which can be interesting at times.  Like last week.  The boys were just home from school, so it was feeding frenzy time.  One of my darling sons tried to make a snack, and misread the instructions on a bag of chicken nuggets. He read "1 1/2 - 2 minutes" as "11 -12 minutes" and set the microwave accordingly.  His brother walked into the kitchen to see smoke POURING out of the microwave and shouted "MOM - GET THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER"

I didn't get the extinguisher, but did quickly (using hot pads) take the plate of extra-crispy nuggets outside, then opened all the windows and doors.  Ryan was stationed at the front door rapidly opening and closing it to expedite ventilation, and Colin turned on every fan in the house and then stood beneath the smoke detector with a folder, frantically fanning it so it didn't go off.

The house smells awful, and we've had a discussion about how to read numbers and fractions on a bag of food.  (And for the record, the kid STILL insists that it said 11 minutes on the bag.)  But no one was injured and the house didn't catch fire, so I think I'll just count my blessings.
