National Passtime

As it is February, this month at the school they are focusing on Black History month, and both boys have had various projects.  Coloring in pictures of Dr. King, learning about famous African American scientists, musicians, you name it.

Today in Ryan's class they were learning about Jackie Robinson.  To get the kids into the mood, the teacher wore her Yankees garb (she's a big fan) including a MATSUI jersey and hat.  Ryan was, of course, instantly overjoyed by her attire, and riveted during the lesson.  They talked about who Jackie was, and a little of the history around him.

After the discussion the teacher asked the class what they remembered about Jackie Robinson.
Here was Ryan's response:

He was a very famous baseball player.
But he beat the Yankees so that makes me sad.

This kid is a classic, and frankly I'm pretty darned proud that at 2 1/2 years old he understood all that.  Great teachers, of course, are a large part of it but still darned insightful for a little guy!
