HONK!

This is a little gross, so if you're eating you may want to stop, but it is a(nother) big milestone so I don't want to skip it.

Last week Ryan caught a cold.  Nothing big, just the usual runny nose, but it WAS a big deal in some ways.  Most importantly, for the first time since October Ryan caught a cold but didn't develop breathing trouble.  No trip to the ER, and no nebulizer treatments.  HOORAY!

And on the "big breakthrough" front... the little guy learned how to blow his nose.  As adults we don't give this much thought - it is just something you do, but for little kids it is a big deal.  When they're really little they just let it run down their nose.  Or (and this happens a lot) they may lick it away.  EWWWWW!  (You were warned.)  The concept of closing off your breathing passages and exhaling forcibly through your nose, on command, takes some time and effort.

Now when we hold a kleenex up to his nose and tell him to blow Ryan dutifully does a teeny little exhale.  Not much, but it is enough to take care of business, and I really think this is at least part of the reason why this cold had less impact on his breathing.  Even better?  This morning I got him to do a great big honking blow, which really helped.

This is the type of thing that passes for a major victory in my world.
Crazy, but true!
